Season 11 of Diablo 4 has shaken up the defense mechanics in a big way. If you're still clinging to your old "immortal cheese tanks" strategy, it's time to rethink your approach. Blizzard has overhauled defense systems, taking the focus away from passive damage reduction (DR) and adding a whole new layer of complexity to how we handle survivability. The New Defense Mechanics: What Changed?
The biggest change is the complete rework of Fortify. Previously, Fortify provided flat percentage boosts to your max health, which didn't scale well as you progressed through higher levels of Torment and Pit challenges. Barriers, too, have been revamped. Instead of providing flat absorb shields, they now absorb a percentage of your missing health, which means the more you're injured, the more effective your barriers become.
